Logical Learning was founded by Dr. Steve Tate, as a means to keep busy in retirement. Steve started teaching college-level computer science in 1991, and with 34 years of classrooom experience he has extensive experience with what topics students have difficulty with and how students struggle with certain concepts. Steve taught at all levels, from introductory undergraduate classes up through doctoral level classes, and mentored students from freshmen to postdoctoral scholars. He created curricula and programs, including an award-winning cybersecurity curriculum and the Ph.D. program at his last "full-time" position.
Steve says:
Being a professor was a great career, and I can't imagine having spent my main working years doing anything else. From solving puzzles and making discoveries in research, to teaching in the classroom, to working one-on-one with students, the job often took long hours but provided a lot of fun and satisfaction.
There were certainly parts of the job that were not fun. I liked giving feedback to students, but grading 50 assignments or exams on a short deadline wasn't a lot fun. And worst of all were the times I had to "play cop" and come down on students who were cheating. I wish all students were in class for the joy of learning, like I'm there for the joy of teaching, but obviously that's not realistic in a university classroom. But it should be true here!
Here at Logical Learning, Dr. Tate can talk about and teach the things he loves, without having to judge or discipline students. All fun, no fuss.
